A long limestone island of beaches, orchids, windmills and Iron Age forts.

Sweden's summer island, reached by a six-kilometre bridge from Kalmar. The Stora Alvaret in the south is a UNESCO-listed limestone plain that flowers with orchids in June; the north has the best sand beaches at Böda; and there are 350 surviving windmills in between. Warm, flat and easy to cycle, which makes it one of the most family-friendly places in Sweden.
