Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock)

The most-walked mountain hike in Norway, and deservedly so. The path climbs roughly 350 m over four kilometres, mostly on stone steps laid by Nepalese sherpas, and ends at a bare granite platform hanging over the fjord. There is no railing. Fit children of about seven and up manage it, but the last section is exposed and busy. Allow four to five hours return and start early — by late morning the car park is full and the rock is crowded.
