Zugspitze
Bavaria, GermanyNature Verified details
Germany's highest summit at 2,962 m, reached by cog railway and cable car.
You can be on top of Germany in under an hour from Garmisch-Partenkirchen: the cog railway climbs through the Höllental to the Zugspitzplatt, and a cable car finishes the job to the 2,962 m summit. On a clear day you see into four countries. There is snow up there most of the year, so bring layers even in August. Serious walkers can ascend on foot in a very long day or with a hut overnight.
